As it Gets
The Keethianda Family has a history like none you have ever heard of before. Many story tellers have reached out to us to come and understand what it is that makes us so unique. Youtubers come to us not just to understand our family history, but also the land that we hold so dear to us.
1785
Thats how far we trace our history
The untraceable
History
The Keethianda Family are only able to trace our history back until 1785. Our Guru Karana (The first Ancestorr) was one of 300+ family members that lived under one roof until Tipu Sultan, the brutal murderer, burnt us down. He locked and burnt down our Ainmane alsong with 22 cradle children on that fateful night. A story that we the Keethianda Family stand strong 8 generations later, to tell the world.
A family that stood the test of time to survive that fateful night and still build back a family that today consists of over 120+ family members who are proud of our ancestors and our existence.
The name of our old karana was erased from our memories when Tippu burnt us down. So we started worshipping the lone survivor Kalaiah as our Guru Karana
Future
Ready
The Keethianda Family took oath the day we almost lost our linage, that we will ensure that we carry our legacy by keeping our children well informed about our history, customs and traditions. An oath that we still honour. Talk to any of our children and you will realize that each one of them is as passionate about the history that we carry on our shoulders.
Our Ainmane
Ainmane is considered the family home that the Kodava’s hold great reverence to. Our Ainmane is situated at the Thora Hamlet of Kedamullur Village in Virajpet taluk of South Kodagu in Karnataka state of India.
Thorathappa Temple
The Keethinada Family are the flagbearers of the Thorathappa temple dedicated to lord Hanuman, who we also consider to be our family deity. The Thorathappa temple is situated 400mts away from our Ainmane and is also a place of worship for all villages in and around Thora.
Our Kaimada
A kaimada is a sacred dwelling for the Kodava Community. Being ancestor worshipers, the Kodava;s consider that our ancestors are still alive by soul at the Kaimada. Our Kaimada is situated 100mts away from our Ainmane at Thora. We pay homage to our ancestors before we undertake any activity in the family.
“
They Say
“I have been associated with the Keethianda Family for over five years now. Having covered a lot of their traditions, customs and food over the years. I have found them to be the most hospitable people around my travels. I always look forward to visit Thora again to cover something more interesting that I cound have missed.”
“I was at Thora in 2024 to cover the making of the famous Kodava Pundi Curry. The Video was an instant hit and garnered over 1.2M Views in just under a month. It was one of the most exhelerating experiences of my youtube career. Today, the Keethianda’s feel like a family away from home for me.”
