THE HISTORY
The Thoratappa Temple is situated about 500 meters away from the Ainmane. This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Anjaneya and holds a special place in our hearts.
Although the exact date of its construction is unknown, it is believed to be many centuries old. According to legend, Lord Anjaneya traveled to Coorg from Kerala along with the demi-gods Iggutappa, Paloorappa, and Pannangalatamme. When they crossed Thora, Lord Hanuman was mesmerized by the beauty of the nature and hills in this village and decided to reside here.
Our ancestors have passed down stories that this is one of the oldest temples in Coorg. Unfortunately, the temple was destroyed by Tipu Sultan in 1786, and the idols were vandalized. However, it was rebuilt, and it continues to be a place of worship and reverence.

The Thorathappa Temple
The Thoratappa Temple, located near our Ainmane, is a revered Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Anjaneya. Affectionately known as Thoratappa, meaning “Father of Thora,” this ancient temple’s origins remain a mystery. The temple is managed by members of the Keethianda family and the local villagers.
Historically, five families—Keethianda, Biddanda, Codanda, Thambanda, and Mathanda—conducted poojas here. The temple also houses an idol of Lord Ganesh. The earliest known incident related to the temple dates back to 1786 AD, when Tipu Sultan destroyed the idols and set the temple ablaze. Despite this, the devotees continued their prayers to the broken idols. In 1978, the villagers raised funds to install new idols, which were carved by the family of the artist who created the Ramlalla statue for Ayodhya. The remnants of the old idols can still be seen in a nearby stream.
